A great way to make money online on things you were buying anyway!

Greasypalm.co.uk is a cashback website that allows you to get money back on all sorts of purchases. You don’t have to buy anything you wouldn’t normally buy, so in a lot of cases you can get cashback on items that you are planning on buying anyway, therefore saving you money. The retailers that participate in this scheme range massively from insurance providers, to gaming sites, to online retailers. A full list of retailers can be found at the Greasypalm cashback link below:

How does it work?

Let us say you wanted to buy breakdown assistance from the AA as your current deal is coming to an end. Simply log onto Greasypalm.co.uk and search “AA breakdown”. At the time of writing there is a range of cash back offers on this, from £9 to £25 depending on your level of cover. This is shown in the picture to the right of this text. All you need to do is click the link to the AA site, from the Greasypalm cashback website, take out the breakdown cover with the AA, and then your cashback will be credited to your Greasypalm account, normally within 30 days. After the amount has been in your account for 30 days, your payment will be sent to you electronically in the next payment run, usually on the first day of the next month. Note: There must be a minimum of £25 in your account before you will be included in the payment run.

You may be asking, where does the money come from, and why does Greasypalm give you cash for this? Well, the way it works is as follows:

1. Greasypalm is set up as an affiliate with its retailers. This means it earns a commission/fee for each bit of business it sends the way of the retailer. Lets say for example, MoreThan, the insurance provider, offers Greasypalm a fee of £50 for every new home insurance policy that a customer takes out when Greasypalm refers them.

2. You, the Greasypalm member, take out an insurance with MoreThan via Greasypalm. MoreThan make a sale of insurance, and Greasypalm gets its £50 referral fee.

3. Greasypalm then gives you a cashback out of its referral fee, for example £25.

That’s it! MoreThan make a sale, Greasypalm earns a fee, they pass on some of that fee to you in the form of cashback. This system is all about incentivising Greasypalm to refer people to the retailer, and encouraging you to shop with the retailer via Greasypalm. Simple!

Can you really make money out of this site?

Yes! I’ll be honest and say it’s not going to make you a millionaire, but you will be able to make a small amount of pocket money for maybe a night out, or even a weekend away depending on how much you make. I’ve been a member now for a year or so and I’ve made £254, see the picture below showing my earnings. This allowed my wife and I to have a few very nice nights out effectively for free!

What if things go wrong?

The only time I’ve experienced things going wrong with this site is when I’m expecting a cashback, and it hasn’t appeared in my account.  The site offers a “tracking” option for you to add a reminder each time you are expecting cashback.  If it hasn’t appeared in your account within 30 days, you can create a ticket to the support queue who investigates and contacts the retailer.  They will then ensure the cashback is added, or will ask for further details of your purchase e.g. for insurances, a policy number.  The helpdesk are normally very helpful and respond within 24 hours.

Where’s the catch?

There isn’t any really.  It’s a win-win situation for all.  You get cashback, Greasypalm gets a commission, the retailer makes a sale – everyone’s happy.  I think the only drawback is that you have to wait a while for your cashback.  It has to be cleared in your account for 30 days before you can be included in the next payment run, which is on the first of each month.  This allows the retailer an opportunity to reverse the payment if they think something untoward is going on.  Sometimes with insurance companies it can take a month before they add the cash back to your account so that you’re through the “cooling off” period where you can cancel the policy without charges, then it needs to have a 30 day clearing period, then you wait for the next payment run.  So in that scenario it can take a few months to get paid, but its money you didn’t have anyway so it doesn’t make a great deal of difference how long it takes to get it.  Each member gets the opportunity to rate each retailer, and you can see this rating on each advert.  I would advise reading these reviews in advance to see how quickly cashback is added, and how reliable the retailer is at adding.

Tip to make extra cash

I think the best way to make a bit extra cash on this site that I’ve found is with the gaming/gambling websites. A lot of these sites offer a cashback greater than the required deposit. For example,

“Get £20 cashback when you deposit and play £10”

In this scenario, you make £10 for effectively doing very little. You simply open a new account, put in £10, and greasypalm gives you £20 back, covering your original £10 and giving you £10 extra.

On top of this, there is often a matched bonus on your first deposit, so when you deposit your minimum £10, the gaming site will give you a £10 bonus bet. That gives you £20 in your online gaming account. Since this is your initial deposit and a bonus, you can’t withdraw this money until you’ve staked it on a bet, but there’s nothing to stop you betting on something with low odds (e.g. You could bet on Chelsea beating some lower league opposition). You might not win much, but you get your stake of £20 back, and you are then able to withdraw it. Be careful, even with low odds you might not win and you lose your £20.

Worst case scenario, even if you lose, you still have your £20 Greasypalm cashback and so have made a £10 profit. Best case scenario, you get your £20 cashback, you win your £20 bets, and come out with over £40 for a £10 deposit!
